By any measure the 2011 Toronto Stars Woman's Rep box lacrosse team had a successful season. A majority of the young woman who make up the team have been members of the Toronto Stars organization for many years playing both houseleague and rep lacrosse. In 2011 the team participated in three tournaments and took the bronze medal in one , the siver medal in another and brought home the championship from the Peterborough tournament. Going into the Provincial championship the team was confident in its stout defense anchorred by Danielle Copeman in goal but knew it would have to be opportunistic on the offensive end of the rink. As the last day of the Provincial Championship dawned our Woman's team had a morning game scheduled, with the host team from Akwasasne, that it had to win by at least two goals in order to qualify to play the Whitby Woman's team for the Provincial Championship. The Stars won by three goals and qualified to play the Whitby Rush in the championship game scheduled for that afternoon. The final was a great game with both teams playing hard and plenty of chances at both ends. The game was tied 2 to 2 after two periods but in the end a well rested Whitby Rush team, playing its first game of the day, was triumphant winning 3 to 2. Congratulations to the Toronto Stars Woman's Box Lacrosse team on a very successful 2011 season that ended one goal short in the Provincial championship. Hopefully next season the team will take that one additional step.
