Hello, my name is Rick Fitchett and I am proud to announce that I am the new President of the Toronto Stars Lacrosse organization. Our newly elected executive is excited to begin moving the Stars into their next phase of growth. It is always exciting when a new group comes forward with their new ideas. This new executive is well on their way to getting things off with a bang. We will be starting early bird registrations, venturing to as many arenas, schools, shopping malls, superstores as time and numbers allow to build our dream of 600 registered players at the Toronto Stars in 2011.

Past President, Ron Parkinson saw this dream of a lacrosse organization over 11 years ago and with the help of Rick Smith and Ray Johnston build the Toronto Stars into the organization we all know and love. With the original leaders stepping down, it is the new executive’s job to move the Toronto Stars into the next phase of its growth. We want to grow this organization both in numbers and in lacrosse opportunities.
We are introducing our new website, this site has been long overdue coming, and it was worth the wait. We will be able to use this site as a tool for communications, advertising and team building.
Our goals are to increase registration this season to 600 players, boys and girls, box and field houseleague and Rep. This amazing sport that we all love fosters many educational opportunities and by offering all aspects of this sport we are opening doors for our youth to be able to ascertain educational opportunities through the sport they love.
Both Canadian and US Colleges and Universities play field lacrosse, we have a very successful Girls Field program already and now starting in the spring of 2011, we will be offering Boy’s field lacrosse. At the last OLA AGM the Stars were accepted into the OLA Boys Field program and we will be entering a Pee Wee team for sure and hopefully build the program so we will eventually have all age groups participating.
We will be aggressively going after new sponsors this season to add to our dedicated sponsor list. It is important for community business to give to community based programs like lacrosse to support their youth’s physical, social and educational development.
An organization is only as strong as its volunteers and we always need volunteers, the more people that give their time, the more we can do for our youth, so please volunteer. Coach a houseleague team, we will be running clinics to teach the game to coaches, watch the website for those dates and locations. We need volunteers to time keep, run shot clocks, help with at the houseleague , help with registration, advertising, sportswear sales, and the list goes on. There is no such thing as to many volunteers. Your child can use these hours towards their 40 hour Community Service and adults can volunteer because it is the right thing to do. So come out and Volunteer!
A new culture of participants at the leadership level of an organization always brings in new ideas, new attitudes, new goals and new enthusiasm and we hope to harness this and use it to make your child’s lacrosse experience one he or she enjoys and can’t wait to share with friends and family.
I look forward to seeing you at registrations and at the arenas.
Yours in lacrosse
Rick Fitchett
